WILD002 - Communication Strategies for Women in Leadership

Communication is the cornerstone of leadership. You can have a vision, a strategy, and ideas for improvement, but if you cannot communicate and connect with others, it will be a challenge have the impact you desire. Additionally, there are subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) differences in communication styles, including gender differences.
Based on research and the experiences of executive women, you will gain a better understanding of communication techniques that work and develop techniques to work through challenges.
A panel of inspiring accomplished executive women will candidly share their communication strategies and tips. Throughout this practical and engaging course, you will develop your communication plan to leverage your strengths and address your weaknesses, resulting in being equipped to communicate more confidently and with impact in both your professional and personal lives.

- Recognize the importance of developing strong communication skills to be an impactful leader and utilize the language of leadership.
- Understand and apply the process of communication including the role of the sender and the receiver of a message.
- Experience the "power of listening", learn techniques to listen actively, and be sensitive to the negative impact of not being listened to, both at work and outside of work
- Understand common gender differences in communication along with the power of 'women's ways of leading'.
- Appreciate the impacts of early childhood on communication and work patterns.
- Learn and leverage strategies for "executive speak" and appreciate communication factors influencing executive presence.
- Develop strategies to speak up in meetings and know how to hold your space when interrupted to increase impact.
- Be able to read the whole message and appreciate the impact of non-verbal communication.
- Recognize that communicating and influencing are directly related to overall confidence about one's leadership abilities and that confidence is contagious to others.
- Identify "communication minimizers" and how to avoid them.
- Recognize gender differences in giving and receiving advice, asking questions, rapport vs task talk, and developing strategies for different situations with a range of people.
